St Mabyn is one of few parishes in Cornwall with a truly hilltop churchtown - the tower of the Church is a landmark for many miles around.
The Church and local inn provide the focus for community life in St Mabyn. The Church is dedicated to St Mabena, she was one of the daughters of St Brychan of Wales who lived in the 15th century. He was said to be the father of twelve daughters and twelve sons all of whom became saints or martyrs. Mabena died on the 18th November around 550AD and her feast is celebrated on that date.
Dating back to the 17th Century, the St Mabyn Inn has over the years built up a reputation for fine ales, hospitality and excellent food. Retaining many original features such as its open log fireplaces and low beamed ceilings, the St Mabyn Inn has proved to be a popular venue for both resident and visitor alike.
